Reiki

The Japanese word 'Reiki' (pronounced 'Ray-Key), means Universal Life Energy.

Reiki dates back to the late 19th century when Dr Mikao Usui rediscovered this ancient system of healing.

It is a gentle, yet powerful form of healing that brings a balance and harmony to the body, mind and spirit. Reiki supports the body's natural ability to heal itself and brings deep relaxation and stress release.

head massageWhat happens in a Reiki treatment

After an initial consultation you will be asked to lie fully clothed on a therapy couch to receive the treatment. A typical session will last one hour. The practitioner places her hands in key positions on the head and on the body to channel the healing energy. The Reiki will naturally flow to where it is most needed by the recipient, be it on a physical, mental, emotional or spiritual level.

How does a Reiki treatment feel

Everyone's experience of a treatment will be different. There may be sensations of hot, cold, trembling, colour, sound or even nothing at all. Most often a deep relaxation is experienced. Afterwards you may feel physical signs of releasing toxins, eg. headaches, runny nose etc. This is quite natural and a sign that the body is healing itself.
